about Sylvia
Sylvia H. Kornherr
Sylvia completed 4500 hours certification program under Dr. Myers and is a pioneer in Equine Digit, Hoof balance consulting and teaching in Canada and the US. Her passion is fuelled out of a desire to share knowledge key to the vitality and spirit of the horse. She continues her ongoing studies of hoof balance mechanics of the equine digit under the mentorship of M.W.Myers D.V.M and Carlene C. Myers who provide consults worldwide on difficult pathological hoof cases out of two Virginia, USA veterinary practices.
She attends on-going education credits and in Jan. 2009 completed Dr. Ric Redden's In-Depth Equine Podiatry Symposium in Versailles, Kentucky, as well as studying hoof mechanics tested under load and dissection with Mitch Taylor/Kentucky Horse Shoeing School, and completed Pete Ramey's Barefoot Trimming - Under the Horse accreditation, recognized by the AFA. Sylvia was first introduced to balanced hoof care in 2000 consulting with Dr. Myers on unsoundnesses in her own horses. In May 2007 she introduced Dr. Myers to the Ottawa Valley where he addressed a large number of local vets, farriers, trimmers, alternate care equine providers, horse owners and nutritionalists, sharing his expertise on understanidng and applying the principals of balancing the equine digit.
Through their combined efforts we now have the availability to offer services to our community to team with local vets, farriers, trimmers and horseowners to better evaluate hoof health and provide farrier and trimmer prescriptions.
Sylvia guest speaks on hoof balance, has guest lectured in affiliation with the college for veterinary technicians and has written hoof balance articles for the OADG and The Polo Post.
She teaches basic horseowner barefoot maintenance between trims and mentors farriers in Canada and the US.
She works with farriers to provide support and assist particularly in laminitic, long toe/underrun heel cases, forward migrated capsules and specialty shoeing application.
She acts as local hoof balance agent-liaison between vet, farrier and horse-owner as well as liaison for specialty referrals to Dr. Myers for difficult hoof pathologies for both local and long distance consulting.
