Tookie’s  Blog

June 8, 2010

We are pleased to announce that the staff and large animal veterinarians of Deepwood Veterinary Clinic are excited to present our first Equine Facility Event and would like any and all to attend. Of course, a little different for a veterinary clinic, as this Event is recognizing farriery as a very important aspect of equine veterinary medicine. We all know and utilize our personal farrier, but do we really know what farriers are all about. What is your farrier’s knowledge base, their boundaries of care and what should owners, riders and trainers expect from their farrier. As well as, what are the owner’s and trainer’s responsibilities to the farrier.

At the same time, we also all utilize our veterinarians, local and when needed, those remote and/or specialists. What is your veterinarian’s interest and knowledge of the equine digit, you need to know. “No hoof – No horse” we have all heard this statement; some of us have learned this statement’s truth.

My intent is to offer some insight to the needs of teamwork in raising the bar for the equine digit, from the viewpoint of the veterinarian, the farrier and the owners and trainers. I hope in the months to follow, this blog will approach and offer some thoughts on the subject of the equine digit. I look forward to your assistance with my blog by submitting your questions and comments to
