HORSE OWNER CLINIC

DR. MYERS presented a rivetting, intense hoof balance seminar to a room full of saavy horseowners. They walked away with detailed knowledge about the equine digit, were drawing hooves, sketching internal bony columns, investigating the relationships  between hoof and bony alignment, determining bone angles versus hoof and palmar angles and hoof mapped various examples to hone their eye to establish location of P3 and breakover on the solar plane of the foot.  They learned how nutritionists actually formulate feed programs.  As one participant commented at the round table, this is leading edge, important data that Dr. Myers is finally getting out to not just professionals, but empowering horsemen at every level.  We ended the day with hoof mapping on horses in the barn and answering questions.
We had participants from across two provinces.

There was a real buzz in the air.

PROFESSIONAL CLINIC
DR. MYERS presented to a room full of farriers, trimmers, trainers, veterinarians and a specialty sport (voltige) instructor/farrier.  The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, and there was such an intense desire to learn, you could sense the excitement and hunger for knowledge.  The information Dr. Myers presented was extremely detailed and provided hands on examples and detailed instruction how to balance very difficult hoof pathologies.  Dr. Myers introduced a little understood condition called migrated hoof capsules, an epidemic of hoof imbalance we see here in the Ottawa Region, self inflicted by common farrier misconceptions of attaining  "hoof mass". He offered research and case samples to break down the issues and offered real time solutions to recover these feet.  The seminar day concluded with a fascinating hoof dissection, compliments of  Neil Daly who offered an exceptional dissection defining the layers of anatomy of both  bony and soft tissue components of the  equine digit.  We were able to assess the cadavor foot visually, using the markers we were taught and applied it to the trim, then verified by radiograph and by hoof dissection to see how very accurate these markers put us into optimal mechanics.  A wonderful tie-in to the day's classroom theory and as one vet commented "AMAZING".  It changed many folks stable datum points.

HANDS-ON FARRIER/TRIMMER/VET case studies
DR. MYERS presented various live horse-hoof cases to demonstrate how to assess, evaluate and perform farrier prescription for various hoof pathologies from club to ringbone, from  laminitic to migrated hoof capsules.  He taught leading edge - balanced trimming instruction, with latest shoe assists and barefoot assist options.  He also demonstrated how to shoot balance radiographs and walked us through soft tissue parameters, how to interpret the measurements and assist in the final trim prescription.
It was fascinating to see past history to current day radiograph changes on these horses which had been under Dr. Myers' care in past referrals.  It was amazing to see how these horses had returned to full work, with prior Obel grade 3 and 4 unsoundness.
One such horse, fully recovering under Dr. Myers' watchful eye,  had just returned from winning the Junior  Dressage National Championships.  Dr. Myers took radiographs, together with Metron analysis, and compared the progressions over the length of the rehab program to explain the changes and where the foot was yesterday, versus today versus where it was going tomorrow.  All the cases demonstrated, were challenging hoof problems with the owners' stories, one after the other giving  testimony to the success of Dr. Myers'  teaching program and application to balance the foot and return the horse to  form and function from a previous significant lameness or unsoundness.

A BIG THANK YOU TO OUR LOCAL SPONSORING VET:
